(aka RamblesofRed)                                                                                                                                                                                It’s the most wonderful time of the year, when young and
old come and tailgate at their favorite team’s stadium eagerly
anticipating the victory to come. It can be a time of laughter, or a time of cheer, but one thing is for sure, it will
have you on the edge of your seat. Have you guessed the season I speak of? Why it’s football season, of course,
and I’m here to provide you with the backstage pass on where to spend your Super Bowl, what food to have, and
where to get the best bang for your buck. You might recall I did an article on a little Irish-American pub in Hoboken
called Willie McBride’s. They are known for their great food at great prices, their live music, and awesome staff.
I had the opportunity to visit them again on Sunday for football and brunch to discuss how they are preparing for
everything football and Super Bowl LIII. Unfortunately I can’t predict who is going to be competing
for this year’s football match (though that would earn me some major street cred), I can tell you some reasons
on why you should definitely go to Willie McBride’s. First reason, you may ask?…The commute. If you are an active
PATH rat like myself, the train ride to Willie McBride’s isn’t hard at all! You merely catch WTC towards Exchange
Place, and just switch off to the Hoboken train and walk a mere 15 mins to your destination. Trust me, it’s a lot better
than trying to take your car in on a Sunday (believe me, I know). Now if you are not digging the train, there is always
the option to take the Free Limo service on Friday and Saturday to catch a game if one is on (call for details).
Now to add, I know very little about football. I do know it’s like Christmas season for bars when the Super Bowl
is coming close. Upon entering Willie McBride’s, I was greeted by the friendly faces of Michelle and Lauren behind
the bar, and manager Gail. It was Sunday, so you already know that football is going to be actively available
on the 23 big screen TVs they have on both upper and lower levels. Now let’s talk about the event space. Guess
what, sports fans? You will never miss your favorite touchdown
moment! Complete with projector screens, plenty of table room, and bonus…even your booth seating has a
TV! You will be at the center of the action, this Super Bowl season, and with a zero cover charge, it will cost less than
a stadium seat. Now let’s talk about food, because one cannot live on touchdowns alone. As stated before
I was in utter amazement at how good Willie McBride’s food is. What you didn’t know, however, is that they have a special menu specially prepared for all you football fans out there. This menu includes:
$6 Pretzel Bites, $7 Basket of Wings in a variety of sauces, $8 Black Bean Sofrito
Nachos, Buffalo Chicken Meatballs, Potato Skins, and $10 Chicken Finger Basket.
I had the good fortune of trying the Buffalo Wings for the first time, and they did not disappoint! They provided just enough kick in the sauce and the meat was fresh-to-order meaning it was practically be falling off
the bone with how tender and juicy it is. Granted wings
are a staple for most bars during Super Bowl season, but it would be a crime to let these pass you by.
I highly recommend them for your game day festivities.
As far as drinks go, Willie McBride’s definitely goes above and beyond. While most of you are sticking
with your go-to beers, don’t forget your date might not be too inclined to stick to Budweiser for the evening. Some featured cocktails to consider would be: $8 Banana Spritzer, $10 Classic
Margarita, Dark & Stormy, $12 Casa Rica Martini,
Moscow Mule, Old Fashioned,
and finally, $15/per pitcher House Sangria.
Don’t worry guys,
I haven’t forgot about you. There are also some
incredible deals on some of your favorite football drafts including: $3
Domestic Drafts, $12 Domestic Pitchers, and $15
Domestic Buckets. There are also $3 Shots available for the evening! Just ask your friendly bartender which are on special, they will be happy to help you out.
On my Sunday visit, brunch was available, and I decided to try the Banana Spritzer cocktail and it not
only amazed me with taste, but gave me that nostalgic feeling.
I’ll explain why…now kids, do you remember a yogurt called Sprinklins? This cocktail gave me a
throwback memory of that awesome 90s yogurt with the sprinkles we all know and loved when we were in
school! I gasped at not only the cocktail itself, but how
much the taste brought me back. Boys this may not be
your thing, but ladies this will be your go-to Super Bowl staple,
I guarantee it. Besides the drinks, there are also some great giveaways for all you avid sports fans.
Now I can’t guarantee you front seat tickets, but check it out!
Some raffles being held include a 10 person open bar for 2 hours, and a chance to win some football jerseys
and other prizes to be determined. Between the prizes and the opportunity for an open bar for 2 hours, who
wouldn’t take the time to come down and try those odds?
Super Bowl season is going to be quite an event, and although there are quite a number of places out there
to beat the rest, Willie McBride’s in Hoboken will and should be one of your go-to bars for this football season. They have it all, quality food, plenty of TVs, and a backroom big enough to fit a Super Bowl team and then some.
Don’t miss out on what they have to offer. Thanks for the football festivities, Willie
McBride’s…and to you all, cheers and happy eating!
