Everyone’s always looking for the newest,
and greatest of things. From art exhibits, to
gourmet, over-the-top bagels, trends could
present themselves in all different forms. In
this case, I’m here to introduce something
a little more relatable. Something for The
Every-man. Or in this case, every person.
You see, a barbershop sometimes is just a
barbershop. Same goes with salons. These
types of establishments are regimented
in most peoples’ lives, especially men.
There are monthly, or even bi-weekly
visits that dudes make to barbershops,
so they just have to be cool, welcoming,
and fun. I’m here to tell you about a little
place in Glen Rock that offers something
different. It’s owned by two young women
who’s otherworldly chemistry and vision
is exactly the flavor that goes into their
services offered by their unique shop, for
it’s not only a barbershop, its a salon as
well.
Now, maybe this has been done before,
maybe it hasn’t, but this spot has been
perfected, it literally has something
for everyone, but still feels like it was
made just for you. They made what they
described as a ‘barbershop salon hybrid,
with a Snow White and The Huntsman
feel”, with rustic, cabin-chic décor, and
cool, Americana flavors with some electrojazz
blairing through the speakers. The
girls obviously take pride in their work,
and rightfully so. Their salon also offers
nail services, in a small cozy lounge that’s
set up to look like a lady version of a men’s
smoking room. Its pink, with hints of their
deer theme throughout it, with a feminine
arm chair and they make their own

products. Yes, they hand make their own
products with natural organic ingredients
and aromatherapy oils. In the nail salon,
they offer a variety of scrubs depending
on your needs, as well as body butter, and
each pedicure comes with an Epsom soak.
Can’t beat that.
As for the salon, its kind of its own
thing. The girls, Christine and Rachel,
wanted a boutique style vibe that would
speak mainly to counter-cultured women.
Tattooed, funky, eclectic artistic, fun and
colorful women. The ladies that couldn’t
ever picture themselves in the fancy,
uptight salon setting, but also aren’t
interested in the cookie-cut salons Bergen
County has all around. In turn, their salon
staff is educated in “vivids” and brilliant
bold colors and haircuts for these ladies.
Their salon, or the “Doe.Tique” staff just
love when they’re given the opportunity to
break the mold, be it with a new fun color
or haircut, they strive for making these
changes. This location was previously a
salon which the girls had purchased and
blended their large following with the
business that had been there. Although
they changed everything about the place,
the previous staff mostly stayed and
believed in what they had planned to do
with it. Its been open for two years in
November of this year, and its proven to
be the right type of spot for the town of
Glen Rock.
Lastly, the barbershop. The barbershop,
Stag House, has rapidly rooted itself into
the soil of Bergen County. The girls are
both barbers by trade, offering, cuts,
designs, beard facials, manlycures, and
faces shaves, again, with their own,
handmade creams and balms. Their
online presence speaks to the calling
for planting your bottom in one of their
chairs, soak it up, because this is how it
should be done. Christine and Rachel met
as colleagues, became friends, and later,
business partners, and their harmony and
ability to laugh pretty much all day long
with one another is a pretty impressive
relationship. They mentioned that they
spend a lot of time together when not at
work, take trips together, and speak every
single day. Strong businesses begin with
strong owners, are followed by loyal staff
and customers, and this science is pretty
evident at Stag House.
